schematic, been reading your replys for some time now.you always come up with the anwser.anyway, looking to rewire entire boat.after years of different people splicing this and that together, decided to do it right.cut all old wires[mostly red/black]to old gauges. i only have engine harnesses hooked up to console back to engines now.boat is a 1979 robalo center console with twin 1985 merc 175s o/bs with twin throttle control with t/t switch in handles .it had original old quicksilver gauges on boat.decided to buy all new teleflex gauges/flo scan meter /flo scan tach/water temp/water presser/tilt/trim in dicaters/volt meter and a garmin fish sounder. at west marine.over 3.000.00.wife almost had heart attack. .i have all the tools, but not the know how to hook up properly.also cannot figure out t/t.new engines have solenoids on carbs.eninges i had before did not.they were in battery box along with solenoids + trim motors that did work off throttles .can you walk me thru this step by. step?

Boy thats a tall order.Im not going to be much help and I have a feeling it will be tough to do a step by step here.<br /> Didnt directions come with all that stuff?<br /> Check around for Books on marine wiring.<br />There may even be some at the bottom of this page.<br /> Try the library.<br /> I want to stress Im not an expert,Im just trying to get you started.<br /> Solinoids on your carbs are probably some sort of primer for cold starts.Probably activated by pushing in the key when starting.<br /> This is an over simplification but all electric circuits simply put the positive side of the battery through the appliance you want to run to ground.<br />I believe your trim and tilt switches will have<br /> three terminals one hot and one up and one down.<br /> These generally operate the trim tilt solenoids<br /> which in turn run the up and down pump.<br /> Finding a book will be a very good start.<br /> There is a color code at www.brokeboats.com/biacolors may be some help.<br /> Good luck

Re: schematic/rewiring

Gee Gee... I was thinking the same thing about 6 months ago when I picked up an 1970 Aquasport CC. I said to myself ( self ) who was the last M_+)( F()_)__r that worked on this boat the last time.. wires everywhere, some wires went to nothing...SO, I took the boat to my shop. <br />(transmission shop)and started pulling wires,seats,console,battery,gauges,engine.. everything that was bolted, glued, glassed down. I was taking off. at the end of the day. I grab a cool beer and stood back and looked at my boat... what the F +_+) did I just do... well, after about 3 months of buying thing for it. it was all for the best... Everything is new if not rebuild. I picked up a set of 2002 baja gauges in its own cluster that was prewired..so, I just bought the same color wiring.. ( nickel wire not brass or copper) and went from there... New to me.. but once started it was a pick of cake..and what is really nice I know what color wire goes to where and what it runs.. I made my own wiring schematics.<br /> So, if you need help down the road or sooner.. just let me know..<br /><br /> highandry

Re: schematic/rewiring

gee gee: Just curious, do you have a service manual for your Merc's?... If not get one...It will pay for itself the first time you use it... There is a great wiring diagram (page 334, figure 31) for the V6 trim system in the Clymer manual..<br /><br /> Three solenoids?.. If so one is for the starter...<br /><br /> The second solenoid is for trim up, which is connected to the blue+ wire from the trim motor... <br /><br />And the third solenoid is trim down. which is connected to the green+ wire from the trim motor....<br /><br />The black wire from the trim motror is to ground-...<br /><br />I could describe more if you need... Just don't want ya to get confused with too much info.. :)

Re: schematic/rewiring

hooty, two solenoids on carbs.[two on each engine].has nothing to do with starter solenoid.black/green/blue wires come up from trim motor mounted on engine and hooks to solenoids on carbs.guessing to run same wires via harness up to throttle control with t/t switch in handles.noticed on ebay;some harnesses have black/green/blue wires on male side of plug to engine.[my harnesses dont] have just before it plugs in,these 3 wires span off from harness.these must attach to solenoids on carbs?snapperbait/yes i have 89 manuel.does not show solenoids on carbs or how to hook up.but i am making progress.think i could hook up old quicksilver gauges but new teleflex still get me confused.another weekend, another case of beer.

Re: schematic/rewiring

Like snapperbait sez, the color coding on the wires are for the t&t all right, but I can't understand why the solenoids are up by the carburetors. I'm thinkin' solenoids up there are for the choke/primer. Oh well.<br /><br />c/6<br /><br />Hooty
