Back story... This past weekend I bought an '86 16.5' Bayliner runabout from my neighbor. Here's why. It had a bad motor. 85hp Chrysler with low compression on the lower cylinder. Runs but wont pull the boat out of the water. otherwise boat in decent shape. I have a '79 StarCraft super 16 that has seen better days but the Johnson 85 runs like a top. Long story short my son and I put the Johnson on the Bayliner this weekend. Outboard motors weigh A LOT more than I imagined.

Sort of on the fence right now as to how I feel about the Bayliner. Seem like a "pig" compared to the StarCraft and has no intrinsic value (aluminum) but... I stepped and the super 16 needs a transom. getting very weak.

So, I would like to scrap the StarCraft and motor and trailer Lots of aluminum and steel to make up a little of the $400 I spent on the Bayliner. Which also has a nice bimini, cover and trailer.

Anyone do this? What can I expect?

I'd try putting it on graislist as a project boat. may be able to get a few hundred for it.

You'll be surprised how little aluminium and steel are in your boat and trailer. I got $12 for the last trailer I scrapped. Due to corrosion and previous owner damage, someone on iboats scrapped a HUGE Starcraft 22/24ft'r that was stripped down to bare aluminum to get the best price for the aluminum. Cut into manageable pieces for ease of sorting. He got less then $125 for it and his was a significantly bigger boat.

AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! :eek::eek::eek:

If you have the poorly working motor with your boat, put it up on craigslist, and ask $400.

Don't scrap the Starcraft. It is one of the easist boats to rebuild. Your scrap $ would be less then $100. It could be sold for more than double in a heartbeat.
