Scraped Skegg - Hydraulic Damage?

Yesterday I stupidly backed the trailer/boat down the driveway forgetting to raise the outdrive, left a nice gash in the road as a result.

I saw no leaking fluid or visible damage other then a slightly rounded skeg now.

But when I go to raise it to the max and down again to test operation, at the max up (trailering position) it does seem to make a wierd noise that it has never made before.

What can I do to check for damage when it comes to the hydraulic piston that raise or lower it or could it be any other damage i've done?

Thanks.

Bent cyl shaft? Broken or cracked housing where it bolts on? Air in the system? Just suggestions.

sure it's not just over analyzing what sounds it makes now vs. before the incident? The mind can play tricks....
