Hey folks,
I bought a Might & Magic software bundle (for the pc) several years ago from the bargain bin. It's a collection of several Might & Magic games. I tried to install Might & Magic 8 about a year back, but the disk is scratched. It installed, but I couln't play it. I don't want to spend $35 on a cd repair kit that I probably would only use once, and I can't find this game anywhere anymore.

I would like to play this game again, as I never completed it. Does anyone here have MM8? If you could email me an ISO image of the disk, I would be very grateful. I will post my email addy if some one can help me out. I can also scan the disk, and post an image on the board if requested, to prove I do have the game and need a copy.(for any piracy concerns). It may take awhile though, I need to go digging through the boxes in the garage to find it.
Thanx in advance!

Hmmmm

I loved all the MM games. I can find MM3/4/5/6/7 but I evidently don't have 8. :(

I will say this, the Disc Dr is one of the best buys you can make. I bought one, figuring if it saved one PS2 game it would pay for itself. I have been able to save numerous discs and keep some games going. Now if I could get my boys to actually put the games away when they were done. Oh well.

AK Chappy

I've never done this myself, but I hear you can polish a disc with plain white toothpaste.

Hey, I found the bundle. It's the millennium Edition. It has world of xeen, + mm6 and 7. So it looks like I never played 8 either. So mm7 is the one thats scratched.

AK Chappy, I loved those games too! But I loved the wizardry series more. If you haven't played them I would definetly recomend it. Personaly I think Wizardry 7 was the best RPG ever writen. It was challenging and very long. Wizardy 8 is way better in terms of player development and graphics, (3d vs. 2d) but wasn't as challenging. But I digress. :)

Anyway, I might try the tootpaste, hope your not joking, Jsfinn!

Oh, by the way, I don't play ps games, but my son does. I'm strictly pc games. I'm teaching him to take care of his stuff, by not replacing anything he breaks. He can use his birthday or Christmas money for that! I also regulate his playing time, as well as what he plays. I fought tooth and nail with my wife and the inlaws about whether he should have game systems, but it was a losing battle, and they eventualy beat me down. If I let him, he'd play his games 24 hours a day.

Let me know if your'e comfortable sending me an image Chappy,
Thanx

I think the problem is because I have too high a version of direct x. The instalation program gave me an error message saying I need direct x 6. I'll download dxbuster, then instal dx6 and see if that works. Hope I don't need the current dx for anything else.

Re: Scratched my game disk

Geez, I don't know what to do now. I downloaded dxeradicator and nuked dx9, then went to the microsoft site to get dx6, but they only have dx9. To make things worse, I have xp, and I hink dx6 was only for win95/98. It might not even be compatible on xp.
I know I've played this game before, but I can't remember if it was on win2k or win98. The funny thing is I recently,(a year ago) played mm6 (the game previous to the game in question) on w2k, and I had either dx8 or dx9, can't remember which. mm7 wouldn't work then, and thats when I first noticed the scratch, and assumed that was the reason it wouldn't work. Now I don't know if it's because of the scratch or the dx version. I'll mess around with it a little more before I give up.

Hmmmm,
If it is telling you that you have the wrong version of dx, it shouldn't be the scratch.

I also liked the Wizardry series. They won't even run on XP. XP doesn't have DOS :( I can't find a patch for it either.

I will try installing MM7 tonight after work. I will see if it gives me the same issue.

AK Chappy

Did you try to run the program in the "compatibility Wizard", sometimes it works...

Re: Scratched my game disk

I got it working. I polished and cleaned the disk as best I could, and then installed it by using explorer to get to the actual instal program on the disk, rather than using the instal option that pops up with the autorun. Maybe the autoinstal program was damaged by the scratch, because it wouldn't instal anyother way.

Chappy, download dosbox. If you can't find it, I'll email it to you. Dosbox is a dos emulator, and I have no problems getting the older wizardrys(wizardry 1-7) to run using it. It takes a little configuring, but not a whole lot.
If you haven't got wizardry 8, you gotta get it. It's a very addicting game, if you liked the older wizies. It runs on modern machines with no problems. It has the appearance of a 1'st person shooter,(100% 3D world, no more moving 1 square at a time)but it an old school classic RPG. it's like Morrowind only much better. You can download a demo if you google for it.

Re: Scratched my game disk

Glad to hear Kalian. When I saw that you had it working, I didn't try to install it. I barely have time to scratch my butt, let alone play PC games. :)
But I do spend time here ;)
I will install it on my laptop before I go to the desert though. Give me something to do between building databases and studying.

AK Chappy

Thanks Chappy,
I don't have much time for games either, but I have time to dabble in it. I'm still in the first city right now.
Let me know if you decide to give dosbox a try, I'll help you out with it if you need help.
