Sculppers and Wood rot?

I decided to change out my sculppers and the thru hull drain tube on my boat. When I took out one side I noticed the wood was damp but was not rotten. When I took out the other side that when my problem began. The other side has some rotten wood, I was able to actually dig some out. Its not alot maybe 1/4in deep 1/2in wide. Now I was a little worried, so I put my finger in the hole I dug out and had my wife jump on the outboard to see if I felt any flex. The whole boat moved, no flexing was felt in the hole. What can I do to make a good lasting repair. Replacing the transom is out of the question since it would cost a arm and leg and there are no signs of it being bad, no stress cracks anywhere inside or outside of the boat. Should I Rot Doctor, Git Rot, Marine Tex, let it be and seal real good with 5200,what I am confused on what to do.

Thanks

Let dry thoroughly. Marine Tex it up and seal it.

Re: Sculppers and Wood rot?

You need to remove any rotted or loose timber, then it has to dry, it must be very dry as sealing when some moisture is still present will cause the rot to continue destroying timber.

You can fill the remaining hole with a mix of epoxy resin and Micro-Fibres, then insert any fittings, or re drill after the resin mix has cured (24 hours minimum).

Hope this helps.

you must determine the extent of the rot before you do a repair....you dont want to just cover it up...or then again ...mabe you do
