I have read alot on these boards about de-carbing your engines and using fuel stabilizers. I do not disagree that you shoudl do both regularly, however having recently purchased my first boat, I need some explanations.

What is Seafoam, Where do you get it, and how is it used (and how often)?

What other products are comparable to Seafoam, and where do you get them? We have a couple of marine chain stores around here, but I have not seen these products. (Of course not knowing about them, I was not looking either.)

Does Stabil do the same thing as Seafoam, or is it just for preseving the gas? Can both be used together?

If I seem very clueless about this subject, I am sorry but I am in desperate need of education here. I want to take the best care for my rig. (Don't have the money for a new one yet, and I would rather do the dumb stuff before I get the new rig).

Thanks again.
Knightgang

Here is a link for Seafoam. You can buy it at NAAPA Auto parts store usually, $5-+. Just read the directions and follow. Do a search here for "DECARB" and you will find lots of posts.
http://www.seafoamsales.com/products.htm
Stabil works great for keeping the fuel from going bad during storage, I have used it, but currently use the Starbrite brand, most any marine store carries starbrite products.

Knightgang

Stabil keeps the fuel fresh over extended periods of non-use(Storage over the winter). Seafoam gets the carbon deposits out of the combustion chamber, so that your engine will perform properly without sticking a ring in the cylinder or overheating due to deposits making the engine run hotter. Seafoam comes in two varieties. One, which is truly Seafoam, is added to your fuel tank per insructions and works as the fuel passes through the combustion area to keep things clean. The other, which is also sometimes reffered to as Seafoam, is really called "Deep Crank", which is made by seafoam. This is the spray version of Seafoam that you spray directly into your carbs as the motor is running to get rid of heavy deposits or if you have not decarbed in a long time. It does work, especially on older motors that have not been maintained for a while. Hope this clarifies things a bit. Some say that Seafoam installed in the tank also serves as a fuel Stabilizer, but I prefer to use specific products for specific purposes. Use stabil and be on the safe side if stored for more than a few months! Carb removal and cleaning is no fun!
