Looked at a 2000 model Sea Hunt Escape 200 today. It has a 130 hp Johnson outboard engine. Has been used in salt water. Any comments on this boat? It is priced at $8,000.

Re: Sea Hunt Escape200

I did some googling on that model. Looks like a really nice boat! However I'm concerned that it may be a bit underpowered. From what I saw, that model is max rated at 200. Using the iboats approved :) formula of 70% of the max rated horsepower being needed for acceptable performance (140).....you're under that. I think I'd want at least a 150, preferably a 175 on it.

It is a very nice boat but I agree that it is underpowered. I think that it is overpriced with the existing engine.

Yeah that's a 4-stroke 150+ HP Yamaha price :) Real nice boat though.

Re: Sea Hunt Escape200

go to the Sea Hunt Owners Forum and ask around. Don't worry about salt water; that's what they are made for (or they'd be called Pond Hunt). My 212 has a 150 (standard package) and it does fine; I don't know that 20 hp less is a deal killer. If it's in good shape, well maintained and comes fully rigged with toys, get it and think about repowering down the road if you need to. Do you plan to haul around 6 people often, or more likely just a couple?
(That being said, I think it's dangerous to have an underpowered boat, plus you can wear out a motor, but I don't see that here. It's not a racing boat so a top speed really doesn't matter, does it?)
