Sea King 35hp manual

I just bought a pontoon boat with what appears to be a 35hp Sea King long shaft outboard. The motor has been stripped of all decals and painted over a few times, there is only one small tag left under the lid with instructions on starting and HP rating. The only symbol left is of a crown and fork. So I am assuming it is a Sea King. I have looked everywhere for the serial #s and they are nowhere to be found. My question is if there is a manual that covers 35hp Sea Kings' and if I just order it will I be ok? It has a hard aluminum cover and appears to be out of the 60s possibly. I have pics but don't know how to post them.
Thanks,
Robert

Re: Sea King 35hp manual

Hi Robert
With out a mod# it is almost impossible to say for sure what motor you have. But from your description "hard aluminium cover" This leads me to belive your motor is an OMC model from the late 50's. Because Seakings were made by several different companies there are no generic seaking manuals. You would need to find an exact manual for your exact model. How ever if indeed your motor was made by OMC then an after market manual for 56-72 johnson/evinrude will work. Here is an idea. Before you go ordering manuals and find that you got the wrong one. Go to the public library and take a look at what they have. It shouldn't take very long to sort out who produced your motor. I would think it's either an OMC or West Bend/Chrysler. I might be all wet also.

I looked on the top of the engine and found a plug of some sort with #737774. Can this be the ID number I am looking for?

If it's a 35hp, it's post-'56. If it has an aluminum cover, it's pre-'60. Best guess is that it is an OMC (Gale) made between 1957 and 1959. (It's a good motor, and worth preserving and using.)

Alright then I am going to go ahead and get the 56-72 johnson/envinrude manual and see what I can do with this old motor. Thanks for the help guys.
