I was looking to purchase a 15 horsepower Sea King outboard motor for my 14' vee bottom boat. The 9.5 Johnson runs good and is reliable yet doesn't have the punch to really move the boat at a decent speed. She just doesn't want to get on plane real good. So moving up to a bigger horsepower motor would seem to be the right decision. The question is.... Are they worth buying? If I do purchase the motor can I still get parts etc etc... Also who makes Sea King outboards and when did they stop making them? Thanks for the help.

Re: Sea King Outboards

Outboards marketed as Sea King by Montgomery Ward were made by several different manufacturers at different times and in different sizes, Thompy.

Parts can be a problem for some engines.

I suggest that you look for a common brand engine for which parts are easily available. A JohnnyRude or Merc will probably cost a bit more to buy, but it will be worth it.

Good luck. :)
