I was given the motor and need to know where to find the id #?

Look on the top of the transom clamp...if it's an OMC/Gale sea king there should be tag/plate there.

Half a dozen companies made Sea Kings. If you can't find the plate, a picture would at least narrow it down to mfr. Or at least a good description.

1958 5hp Deluxe. Made by Gale Products Division of OMC. It is a Gale model 5D15. Great motors.

I would only add that this shares many parts with the similar Evinrude /Johnson motors.Routine parts are available right here at iboats
among many other pplaces.

tried to start it today (no go) going to replace the impeller and clean the carb already changed the plugs and checked the compession (95) any other suggestions?

Have you checked the spark.If the coils haven't been replaced they will need it.MW was the retailer ,built by Gale,You can get coils right here under the Evinrud/Johnson listing for that year.In fact the coils probably fit a half dozen
different hp over about 40 years.

The coils would have been the First!! thing I would have checked.

You have to pull the powerhead to disconnect the shift rod before you can get the lower unit and water pump off. At the top end of the drive shaft, you will find a carbon seal assembly. That seal is vital and will ruin the engine if it is compromised. Always make sure all the parts are good, and assembled correctly. And always use a new 303355 gasket and 303347 o-ring (these are parts of the seal)
