I picked up a Sea Nymph SC161 and a Suzuki DT30 for my next duck hunting boat. Been getting linkage hooked up, mounting motor and controls, installing nav lights and bilge pump. Carb had been cleaned by a buddy who does boat repairs. Took it out for the test run, and while it was OK, I was expecting more ooomph from this combo. Took a fair amount of time to plane, maybe 10-12 seconds, and would not stay on plane in a turn. I do not have any dash gauges so true WOT RPM not known, but to an ear that has been messing with boats for 30 years and internal combustion engines of all types for 45 years, I guessing no more than 4000 RPM. throttle linkage is adjusted for maximum throttle opening of the carb. Motor also starts kind of hard when warm. I tried all of the positions for the strim angle pin. All in all, I am underwhelmed. I know that this boat likely weighs around 550 - 600 lbs as it is stripped of everything but the console. i am thinking prop maybe, but not sure how to calculate the right prop for the combo. Any thoughts?
PS - only ever had one Suzuki - a DT8 bought new on a Sea Nymph GLS. That boat weighed 780 dry. Sucked in temps below 60 but would go like a scalded cat. I was hoping for better performance from this combo.
Thanks in advance for any and all responses
