Hello everyone need a little help from any of you who may own a sea ray 268 sundancer with a mercruiser 260/5.7 alpha setup. I currently have 2 sea rays and just acquired a third. One 79 225 express cruiser, 83 245 sundancer, and now a 85 268 sundancer. I bring them all up because every single one has the mercruiser 260. I love this engine its simple and offers plenty of power however i am a little concerned with the 268. Its alot of boat for even the merc 260 and I know a majority of them usually come with the big block 7.4 instead. So I'm wondering if any of you have this set up and is she a dog? or you like it just fine? and is the merc 260 working to death to stay up on plane? Mostly want to know cause I'm considering the 268 instead of my 245 but I really love the 245 and not sure its really worth the sacrifice especially if this one is going to be underpowered. To give you an idea of the type i am I don't need to be a speed demon on the lake but at least need to feel like I'm on plane and moving at a reasonable pace even if its high 20's low 30's mph. Also am I sacrificing alot of fuel economy on a hard working engine? I'm posting cause I won't be able to water test the 268 till most likely end of next summer......thanks in advance for any help!

I don't have your setup but I do have a cruiser with a slightly under powered motor it in. I got the 5.0MPI and wish I got the 5.7MPI. From being under powered I have to keep the boat running around 4,000RMP to keep it on plain in some conditions, I have to move the throttle around allot to keep her happy and she is a total dog with more than my wife and I on board.
