Sea Ray Leak

I recently acquired a 1995 23' Sea Ray Signature with a Bravo 1 outdrive. The former owner (who is a good friend) told me that there was a leak, and a mechanic had told him it was the drive bellows. I had the drive pulled and bellows replaced but on my first trip to the lake since the repair was completed, the leak is still there. The bilge pump is spitting out 2-3 gallons an hour.

The hull is in excellent shape and there are no cracks in the gel coat or underlying fiberglass. The only holes that are below the water line are the drain plug (yes, the plug was in, :) ) and the outdrive. I even wrapped the drain plug in teflon tape before screwing it in to ensure it wasn't coming in through the threads. So it is my best guess that the leak is either in the Bravo 1 outdrive or between the metal drain plug housing and the hull.

Does anyone have a good suggestion on how to start looking for the leak? Is there any "known" problems with the Bravo 1?

Re: Sea Ray Leak

I would check it first with the boat not running. With that kind of leakage you would think you could see it. What about one of the hoses from the raw water pump, to the fuel cooler to the manifolds etc.? There are definitely other places than the drive and thru hull stuff that could pump water into the bilge.

Good luck and welcome to Iboats.

Re: Sea Ray Leak

i have the same problem....2-3 gallons an hour. Hull looks great (93 Sea Ray 20' Overnighter w/alpha 1).

Leaks when engine off. Took engine cover out of the boat and am going out tonight for a test run to see where the water is coming from...also going to test my newly installed auto bilge pump switch ;) .

Going out to pinpoint where it's leaking.

P
