Hello guys I bought a boat from my friend and he had the typical issue of flushing it wrong and it backfired and blew the ride plate seal out. The plate was minorly bent so we straightened it. I have a new seal to put on but what I dont know is if Im supposed to put silicone on the seal where it contacts the ride plate and on the other side of the seal that contacts the hull. Additionally, the ride plate seems to just sit (Metal on Metal) on the intake grate. Should there be a gasket or silicone here as well?
And last question is how do you flush this thing because he has what he thought was a flush kit mounted where a garden hose connects to it. So how did this happen. Do you have to run a second source of water to it and how long do you keep the engine running? It hasnt seen saltwater yet but it will with me so flushing will be a big deal for me to do right.
