Hello. I'm in the process of buying a 1988 Grady White Sailfish with twin 200hp Mariners which where installed in 2000 and are still under warrantee, but are model year 1988. Yesterday was the sea trial and survey, and although the thermostats probably need to be replaced (the temperature alarm on the starboard motor went off and the readings were spotty) the real problem is that the starboard motor only revved to 5300rpm. Apparently the factory specs. note they should go to 5800rpm. The port motor did that just fine.

I get the impression that seller doesn't really want to deal with the problem, but my thinking is that once they fix all these things, I will accept the boat. Has anyone experienced this before their motors? Does anyone have any negotiation suggestions?

Do both motors have the same pitch prop...

If not, a higher pitch prop on one motor will cause a lower WOT rpm compared to the other. One of the motors is probably counter rotating, but they should have the same props in regards to pitch...

If it's not a prop difference causing the rpm variation, I'd be leary!
