I am looking for a small jet boat so my wife and I can go rip around the lake and maybe go into the bay or ocean once in a while to jump some waves. I see the SeaDoo Speedster jet boats are very popular. I am looking used and don't want to spend more than about 7K on a boat. I see you can get some 1995-1997 good condition Speedsters for this price. My questions are:

1.) How are these boats? Being they are almost 10 years old, is that a bad thing?

2.) Are the twin 85hp 2-cylinder Rotax jet engines good? Or do they break down a lot and require very frequent maintenance?

3.) Are there other small used jet boats to consider in this price range that are better than the Speedster's?

4.) Can you hit waves and wakes with the Speedster and get the boat totally out of the water? or will this damage the hull and/or engines?

Thanks

Never drove one. I have one piece of advice, though: Always wear a very good quality PFD when you're doing all that wave jumping and tearing around on the lake.

Also, make sure you understand the rules of boating. If you ignore them, you're going to royally tick off some other boaters.

As to your question #4, that's the reason I wrote this reply. I'm sure you can hit waves and wakes fast enough with this boat to launch it out of the water. Will it damage the hull or engine? Perhaps. It's equally likely to damage your spine, especially your cervical vertebrae.

Again, buy really good PFD's...ones that will keep your head above water when you break your neck.
