I am not sure if I am posting this in the proper forum... but it seems like the most appropriate for the subject matter.

I have an 18hp 1971 Evinrude that I am reconditioning from A to Z; LU seals and gaskets, water pump, fuel lines and pump redo... points and condensers... and a carb rebuild.

I am wondering if I should decarb with Seafoam before or after the carb rebuild... and before or after fuel lines.

Does it make a difference?

I thought I remember hearing something about Seafoam decarbing being hard on a fuel system. (I am not 100% sure on that...)

It won't make a difference, but I would do it before you take it apart.

after carb rebuild

i would also clean tank if possible and replace fuel lines just incase the seafoam might set some dirt loose.

Sea foam is a gas additive so it won't hurt your fuel system at all, a decarb is super concentrated Sea Foam that breaks up the carbon build up in the engine and it will foul your plugs but not hurt anything else.

If you are redoing alot of the engine I would decarb first then rebuild, it will help break everything up.

Just watch where you do it, it smokes ALOT, if it has never been done it smoke really alot and for quite awhile.
