Seafoam use and first time out

I finally have my boat running like a top after flushing engine, cleaning fuel system, and replacing ignition among other things. It sounds great, but I know through running it with the old gas before and just checking the plugs during the whole tune up process, I got quite a bit of carbon built up in there. Plugs are dry now that the engine is running well and turning the color they should be.

My question is, when I take it out on the lake for the first time to try it out and finish tuning and setting timing, should I take a can of seafoam and slowly dribble it straight into the carb during a slow run to clean some of that carbon out or simply mix it with the gas?

I have heard on older engines, this is a 1978 GM 350 V8, it is sometimes not recommended to aggressively go after carbon build up as it can sometimes seal gaps and spaces over time and actually be beneficial. Is this way off?

Yah, drive went back together flawlessly, although I think I took the thing back apart like 4 times to make sure I got the impeller in there turned the right way only to reallize that when the shaft spins it will reset it to whatever orientation it is supposed to be in anyway. The housing was hopelessly cracked. Big improvement was cleaning the fuel system, she starts up in about 1 second with no hint of smoke and has a nice sweet, even exaust tone. Ill take another peak at that thread.

Thanks! I was looking at the incorrect thread, good heads up on the garage door, as I have the drive about 3 feet away from my garage door.

Is this Seafoam deap creep available at an auto store like regular seafoam or is it more specialized for marine and located at a marine store such as West Marine?

I was looking for another good maintainance project to do till it warmed up a bit to take it out on the lake, and this seems to be a good one.

years ago when folks used to decarb engines properly.. (take em apart) they used to say that the little ring of carbon build up around the top of the piston and top of the cylinder should be left alone cos it helped control oil consumption on older engines.. make of it what u will..

trog100
