Really want to take my 7 year old son fishing soon. where do I start to get this motor running?

gain11,

#1. STOP USING STARTER FLUID. You will definetely kill that engine with that stuff. Starting fluid has no lubricants.

If anything, use pre-mix in a spray bottle.

Are the spark plugs wet?

Do you have spark on both cylinders?

Hi Gain11,
Your motor is actually an Evinrude 1962 model 10hp (model 10024) - apparently a bit of mixing of parts has gone on. Not a big deal, but helps when you have to order parts to know what motor you're dealing with...
A real easy test to see if you're getting fuel to the carb: Remove the bottom needle valve from the carb bowl and prime the bulb. If no fuel comes out then you've got a blockage somewhere...
- Scott

Re: seahorse 10 won't start

I've got a '58 seahorse 10 & had a similar problem. I'd check the carb for problems. Start by getting a carb kit and rebuilding the carbs, An old seal, gasket, etc. can break apart and clog needle jets. Also check mixture and make sure you're running fresh gas. I believe mix is 24:1? If you have mixed parts, make sure flywheel is the right one. I'm not sure but maybe if flywheel is wrong the magnet might be in the wrong spot causing a timing problem. Chinewalker will tell you if that's a possibility or not. Check plugs to be sure they are the right ones and are gapped right. And check compression.

KC
