Bought an old 14ft jon boat with a Sea King 6hp. Model number: VWB27906A. Any ideas on repair manuals, year built, oil:gas ratio, maint (preventative) or what to do for checking it out? New in the business, but mechanical background (Aircraft) so I am a little handy. Bought it as is, it turned over when I bought it, but we did not run it long. Getting new plugs today and some water muffs to try it out.

Did find oil gas ratio, 24:1, is the gap for plugs 30? Anything I should inspect before firing it up at home or at the lake? Thinking it looked clean and if it will start at home and run through gears real quick, I may dump into lake and see what happens!?

VWB indicates a West Bend built motor.West Bend purchased by Chrysler circa 1965.Your motor must be around those years 69 6hp is a 27906 no VWB.
You should assume the impeller is no good if you don't know when or if it was replaced.
69 , 6 hp @ 4500 55- 65 psi compression,H10J plugs.at .030, Magneto points .020.Tillotson MT-91B Carb.
It appears that some may have a 2" bore with a 10.6 cu in displacement and 4500 @ 6hp.
It is possible West Bend and Chrysler may cross over for parts. Chrysler became Force circa 1984.

Motor tuned and runs good. Spits water out really well and seems to be running cool. Ran on lake about 2 hours straight, mid range to idle mostly. Full power about 5 minutes solid. One problem. chipped darn prop on under water obstacle. About half the size of a dime. Are these props "Universal"? meaning, can I just go to a store a buy a fit? Have not pulled it off yet to look for numbers. Second problem is it seems to be leaking lower end grease just a bit. Bottom fill hole screw says "grease" beside it and top says nothing. From what I understand is the bottom you only open to change fluid. Or is that a separate area. Opened just a bit, and white grease flowed out, not the normal lower end oil I was expecting.

Prop is specific to Chrysler / Force. It is 7 1/2" diameter by 7" pitch, right hand rotation.

Lower unit is supposed to have 90 weight gear oil. Somebody may have filled it with grease in an effort to stop leakage.

Look at the other numbers with the model number. You should see one that starts with (for example) 56X----- Reverse those two numbers and you get the year. In this example, reverse 56 and you get 65---1965.
