I'm changing out the impeller on a 1985 Evinrude V6 150 HP engine. The manual says to apply OMC adhesive sealant M on the gear case to the exhaust housing. The dealer said that adhesive M is not made any more and that I do not have to apply anything just bolt the lower unit up. Is the dealer right; this doesn't make since to me? any help?

Adhesive M still in use, I just got new tube from The Bomb. I have never seen anyone use it to seal case to exhaust housing.

I think your manual might be refering to the rubber inner exhaust seal? You may need a little sealant here. This will help hold the seal to the lower unit for instalation. I would't glue it on the top side though. Maybe use a little vasoline on the top side, to help it slide together easier.

The following are equivalents to Adhesive M: Marprox Sealer 1000, Boat Armor Sealer 1000 and 3M Scotch-Grip Rubber and Gasket Adhesive #847.
