Sealant or tape for fittings on motor/exhaust?

If I remove any of the fittings on the motor or exhaust, do I need some special thread sealant to re-install? Or will teflon tape work?

Ayuh,..... I prefer paste over tape, but Ya, 'bout any thread sealant will do,.......

Okay thanks, I can get some of the sealant I guess...I noticed the OEM stuff was red and I only am aware of the white pipe sealant so I wasn't sure if that would work and/or if the red was high heat and that was what I needed?
