Would the 3M 4200 be ideal for sealing the 2 halves of my 1960 slickcraft or would 3M 5200 be more for my use? I split the boat into 2 parts to paint it and want some protection when it's ready for the water.

If you're referring to the cap joint, the 4200 is fine, the 5200 is a more permeant sealant, I have used marine grade silicone for that joint also...some here will argue with the silicone here, but it's fine above the water line. Now the more permanent 5200 is used a lot for that joint since separation of the two halves is generally not something you do but once.... So bottom line you have several choices here.

Personally, I use marine grade silicone for that joint....
