This is my first venture into boating so please bear with me. I have recently aquired a 1989/90 Searay 190 closed bow boat, it is in a very sorry state. My intention is to spend several years restoring her. I am trying to ascertain what engine is currently installed in it. There is not much left to identify, basically it is a block plus heads (no carbs etc).It is an 8 cylinder and the only identirying numbers or marks I can currently see are as follows. 14096244GM and K108. I am assuming it is manufactured by GM. Any thoughts or help PLEASE. I have pictures if that will help anyone.

Re: Searay 190 Engine ?????

Gardener, I have a 1988 Searay 19' Sorrento Bowrider. It came with a 4.3LX (GM V6)4 Barrel Carb, 205HP and a "SeaRay Outdrive" The outdrive is really a Mercruiser Alpha one, with white paint and green-blue decals.<br /><br />I would bet your motor is a 305 CU small block/Alpha one outdrive. Replacement parts, blocks, manifolds, carbs etc. are readily available. Luckily, I have been able to keep my boat running with the original engine and outdrive. I think I am on borrowed time, since I put a lot of hours on her. The good news is that iBoat sells new Alpha one outdrives for $1600.

Re: Searay 190 Engine ?????

Gardner, The serial number seems to point to a GM motor, only three were available the first was the 898 merc 305ci with a two barrell carb Does the motor have an intake manifold on it? second was the 228 which was a 305ci with a four barrell carb and the third was a 260 merc 350ci with a four barrell carb. Check here for motor ID<br /><br /> http://www.marinemechanic.com/site/page131.html <br />also look here for the outdrive installed<br /><br /> http://www.mercstuff.com/drive_id.htm <br /><br />Good luck with your project boat sometimes referred to as the POS

Re: Searay 190 Engine ?????

UPDATE I have now managed to retreive a number from the engine, it is GM 5.7 LG SGI therefore I am assuming it is a 5.7 liter V8.Which should have an Alpha 1 drive 13.75 x 21 prop.
