Hello,
I own a Searey 225 BR, its the 1993 model with a 5.7 mercruiser engine 0205881531.jpg
I dont know if my question is more science fiction than reality, but is it possible to fit any diesel engine in this boat? For sure i cant use my existing stern cause its the Bravo Alpha I .
Have anyone tried anything similar with this boat? If yes(!) what kind of diesel engine models you suggest to look for? I can imagine that the biggest problem will be the weight and size of the diesel engine.
Thank you

Re: Searay 225 br (1993) Diesel?!

Mercruisers have been coupled to diesel engines for quite some time. Bayliner had an alpha one set up and there were also bravo drive set ups.

Parts are rare and VERY hard to find.

It would not be cost effective at all to convert a 1993 hull since it will be 20 years old. You would never see any return on the repower at all and I would not be surprised if it cost in excess of 20K for the conversion.

You are better off looking for a diesel boat.

Thank you for your answer Bob.
The point that i dont understand is what kind of convertion to the hull i need?
I saw a few Mercruiser D-TRONIC'S thats about the exact same size, even i think with the same stands as my 5.7 merc engine that can also take my Alpha One stern, or some newer the Bravo with duo prop.
