Hello everyone, I have a 1993 celebrity bowrider 18 ft. w/ a mercruiser 4.3l I/O. I am asking for suggestions on a prop that is good for cruising and tube towing. The boat weighs approx 2800 lb empty, standard hull shape with a hydrofoil on the outdrive. Should I remove this hydrofoil? What is a good size prop for my needs. Thanks in advance, J

Re: Searching for the right prop

Hi JCourt, when I bought my boat (1990 Rinker, 18', 4.3 Merc) three years ago it had a whale tail (what you described) on the outdrive. I left it there until I replaced my outdrive a year ago last fall. Since I never did an A-B with and without on the whale tail, I can not tell you precisely what effect it had on acceleration, top speed, life of the outdrive, etc... However, what I did notice was my boat seemed to be alot more manuverable. I could turn much sharper in and around the docks at low speed, which helped greatly with loading/unloading from the trailer and approaching the docks. My boat also appeared to handle better at high speeds...at least that is how it felt me, much easier to make sharp turns.

Just my two cents,
Mike
