Sears 1982 9.9hp engine troubles

hi,<br /><br />i own a 1982 sears gamefisher, model number 217586261.<br />The engine will start up and run for a few seconds but then die. It will only start up by spraying starter fluid in the carburetor, but it still wont keep running. The spark plugs were just replaced and <br />that is the only thing we have tried. Any suggestions on how to get this thing running. I was thinking it was maybe the carburetor but I can't find a carb rebuild kit. Is there any other possible things wrong.

Obviously you've got a fuel delivery problem. Have you tried Sears for the carb kit? Go to http://www3.sears.com/ and type in 217.5586261 and you can view parts diagrams, etc. It's a very simple carb & probably just needs a good cleaning.<br />Backlash

thanks but if I take the carb apart will the gaskets be runined and will it need any parts to replace in the carburetor.

also there are no carb kits on sears

check the fuel delivery from the gas tank to the engine. Is the connection on the engine delivering fuel?
