Sears/Eska 7.5hp won't transition off idle

I have what I think is a late 70's 1 piece cowl Sears Gamefisher with an air cooled Tecumseh motor.

Motor dies when applying throttle from idle. If I get it past the lean spot it runs fine.

I've rebuilt the carb (clean as a whistle). If I richen the idle alot, it idles poorly, but doesn't die when accelerating.

I've evem resorted to raising the float to richen the main jet mixture and that helped, but it's still unpredictable.

If I remove the fuel line just for a moment(little less fuel in bowl) it will instantly do the die out on accel thing.

Compression is 115 and plug is new rj14yc.

Any help is appreciated!

first thing is to check the throttle pin and its contact with the timing cam through out the range of throttle movement, the brass pins can change position when you change to a thicker carb gasket and they can bend just enough through usage or a tad of abuse to mess with the sync, also the thicker replacement carb gasket will erode quickly at the fuel pump pulse hole which has happened to me. also check the float needle clip position...install it from the wrong side and it changes the needle position on the float tang and can cause the needle to stick. also check for air leaks at the carb gasket.
