You guys are awesome. I've been reading this forum for a month now, learning alot. I've been patiently reading trying to solve my problems with my gamefisher 3hp. My model and serial number are 298-586192 serial G139737. I bought this used from a guy on Craigslist a month ago. He said the pet **** leaked, so I immediately ordered that part. I also ordered a new Ignition coil, 2 fuel lines, air cover, muffler gasket, cylinder gasket, 2 piston rings, and a new spark plug. I cleaned my carburetor by soaking it and using compressed air. The problem I am having is i can't get this thing to start. The compression seems good. Blows my finger right off the hole. The gas seems to be getting to the carburetor. The spark seems a little weak though. I don't know what a magneto rotor is. But I did notice that my flywheel looks like it is missing some pieces that were once it. There are 3 empty squares on the rotor that look like something used to be attached to it. Am I correct? I looked underneath the flywheel with a flashlight an there looks like a magnet under there. I tried spraying gas right into the carb and it acts like it wants to start though, so I am probably missing something.

Thanks for helping..

Not positive but those are magnets ur looking at test with a bolt or something. Sounds like your problem is a carb adjustment

OK I still can't get this thing to start. I took the carburetor apart again and cleaned it very well. I also went as far as taking my carburetor off my Mercury 3hp 2 stroke and put it on. Looks like the same exact Carburetor and still no luck. I don't know why this motor won't turn over. its very simple. Tank is cleaned, new pet ****, new fuel lines. That should take care of the fuel to the carburetor. New piston rings. The cylinder pressure seems really good. I spent $100 for the motor now I have put in another $100 for parts. I'm about done investing money into this thing. Any ideas on what to check? I lined up my marks on the flywheel. I'm stumped...

have your dumbest brother in law come over for a beer and have him hold the plug wire while you give it a crank....or buy/make a spark tester and see what you got, I'm not sure what it should jump but I hear 7/16 of inch quoted alot.....but if brother in law jumps 3ft high and yells out and does a boogie dance and spills his beer then you igniton is most likley good

LOL I actually did that myself and shocked the crap out of me. I'm just not getting it. It sounds like a car backfiring but wanting to start. Any ideas of what I should look for? There is fuel in the float so I believe that it is getting fuel.

The carb slide needle in the middle position, the throttle in the "start" position, the choke in the "closed" position, fuel petcock in the "open" position, gas tank vent open, spark plug really clean....then it should start right up. Good Luck!....hope she starts!;)

Uhnn I have a Tanaka 3 HP Motor and had a problem with the ignition this weekend. The motor didnt have any spark... the problem was solved disconecting the cable of the ignition that goes direct to the chasis and serve for stopping the motor pressing the botton. It seems that i had a shortcircuit somewhere or other problem with the ignition.

In the mean time, im not expecting to buy a new ignition, so i will just leave disconected the cable of the ignition to the chasiss and when i need to stop the engine i will conect it to the chasis so it will stop the engine.

You can confirm if the motor is taking gas inside, just taking of the spark plug, cleaning it and putting again into the motor, try to start it again, remove the spark plug, if is wet of gas, it means that the gas is getting into the motor and you have other electronic problem or with cab air inlet.

That motor cut-off button on front of cowling grounds the ignition when pressed....corrosion got in mine and I had to replace it....check those wires to and from that button to be sure they're not broken, chafed or the switch is bad, grounding your ignition. If that fixes your problem get one of those rubber push-button protector gizmos that goes over the button to keep water out of it...a small tie-wrap will hold it on...Good Luck!:)
