I have a searsgamfisher 1.75 or tanaka 175, the same motor, and after soaking the carb and scrubbing it clean, the motor still doesn't have a real low idle. I have with many other outboards made by merc, omc and the like and I can get them idle down real low. There is only 1 idle screw and that seems to limit how open/closed the throttle gets. I am wondering if this is normal for these motors? It starts and runs fine, and I figure a motor this small will spend most of it's life at WOT, but I sure wish I knew how to get it to idle down real low. Lastly, does anyone know the oil type for the lower unit? or have the operator manual. I have the parts diagram, but sure could use the manual.

thanks in advance.

Re: sears gamefisher - tanaka 1.75

My after market manual says Throttle slide clip should be in the 3rd notch from the top on a 175.There is an idle speed adjustment screw it says don't go below smooth operation. It uses standard sae 90 outboard gear lube.
My manual is by Intertec covers motors below 30 hp 69-89 almost 600 pages.Got it on ebay for about $15 + shipping.
