What's your opinions on these boats? Quality? Resale? I'm looking at the 190 with a 4.3/Mercruiser and a 210 5.0/Mercruiser. I'd prefer the 210 but cash flow has me considering the 190. 190 - $17995, 210 - $21500

I also got a price on a 205 Bayliner with 5.0/Mercruiser for $20995 but Bayliners reputation has me worried about resale value.

The quality of the Seaswirl Sport series is not bad. But I find the seating in the Bayliner more comfortable. So the Bay would be my pick. Too bad the standard Bayliner trailer is questionable. Some other "value" brands in this size to look at are Stingray and Tahoe.

Kelly Cook

KCook,

Thanks for your advice. You have helped me in the past. I appeciate it.

I'm going to the Philadelphia Boat Expo this comming weekend, I'll checkout the Stingray and Tahoe. The price of new boats are killing me! But there are deals out there. I just have to be patient. I'm not ruling out a late model used boat either but I always seem to be too late.

The best deals are on closeouts from last year. But those are probably all gone at this point. When sizing up "deals" don't forget to factor in the quality (or lack thereof) of the trailer too.

Kelly

I should have told you the 2 Seaswirls I mentioned above are new 2003 models. The MSRP on the 2004 190 and 2004 210 are significantly higher. The 205 Bayliner is a 2004 model with a MSRP of about $25000 (according to web site). I also saw a new 2003 Four Winns 180 Freedom with a 150 Evinrude for about $20000. I could probably get the price lower but it may be sold.

What do you think?

EDIT: Bayliner 205 price includes freight and prep. I'm not sure about the others, I'll have to get clarification.

I still like the Bay, but for your $20995 figure, not MSRP. The Four Winns 180 is much smaller and has an outboard, so it is confusing that it is even under consideration. Buy the boat that fits your needs, and don't get caught up too much in the brand names. Frankly, the only brand names that mean a lot are Bryant and Cobalt. Neither of which is cheap.

Kelly

Thanks for bringing me back to reality. I get overwhelmed at times.

Anyway, the $20995 is for the 2004 Bayliner 205. The price includes the freight and prep plus Mercury Marine is adding an additional year to the warranty for the engine and outdrive for a total of 2 years. I have been to the dealer several times (about 5 miles away) and they seem like good people.

The Seaswirl prices do not include freight or prep. I have not been to the dealership, so I don't know much about them. The Seaswirl dealer is about 75 miles away.

In your situation I would just forget about the Seaswirl. Bayliner is a nicer boat anyhoo.

Kelly

KCook,

You made me rethink my situation. Maybe I am confused? If you have about an hour to read this, check out this link.

Thanks again.
