Seat pedestal problem

My bow rider came with a very short seat post, maybe 9". Normally it's fine if I want to look just through the (low) windshield, but most of the time I like to watch over the glass.

So, I went to a local shop and bought an adjustable pedestal. Unfortunately it sits a minimum of 15", much too high. So, do I...

A) Take a hacksaw to the $80 unit and net about 3" of adjustability, or

B) Take it back and be frustrated.

Re: Seat pedestal problem

usually those pedastals have a slight taper at each end, and cutting it may render it useless. If it does not have a taper I would say cut it, unless they will give you your money back. I also say if you knowingly ordered the length you ordered, then it is your baby, why should a dealership pay for something you hoped would work.

Breakout the sawzall :D One note, if you decide to cut it, take your time and get a good level cut or the seat won't sit right on it. You'll get a wobble. You may have to grind it a bit to get it good and level.

Actually, if you have a big pipe cutter that may be the way to go as it would give you a good clean level cut.

BoatDoc...this is on a 94 Caravelle, far from a new boat.

Good point Ralph. I'll be sure to square it off exactly. Any other suggestions are still welcome!
