Hi there guys,

i am in australia and am wanting to buy a second hand outboard from the states and have it imported. I am after an outboard b/w 115 and 140 hp (any brand) that is post 1998. Preferably i would buy two of the same outboards and flog one off here to make up some money on the other.

Can anyone suggest a good source in the states to look for something suitable. Obviously there is ebay but there must also be another site or the like?

How much should i be looking to spend on twin 115hp direct injection 2000 model outboards?

Thanks

Nick

This may be a dumb question, but are there any used outboards in Australia? I can only assume that it would cost a lot of money to ship an outboard from the US.

Try right here on iBoats. Great selection. Click on Boat Motors button at the very top of the page.

Re: second hand outboards

We have s/hand outboards over here in aus but they are just so expensive. For example, i priced a 135 yamaha 2 stroke here, 2002 model for $7900. Just plain carbi type also.

Ideally i am after a post 2000 direct injection outboard. On ebay there is a pair of 115 merc optimax outboards for 8000 in the states. Freight to Australia is 800 US. Therefore i am paying about 12000 AUD for two late model outboards. Over here i could probably a flog an engine off like one of these for 6500-7000, therefore spending only 5000. See my drift. Also i am aware there are much better offers out there!

Have you checked out all the hidden costs to import into Oz, AQIS for starters won't let it happed, this also applies for second car parts, all the foreign bugs that might be lurking in those motors, also if it can be purchased in Oz and you try to import, the duty will be prohibitive. For your $12,000 thats a new 25in 115HP opti with 3 years warranty.
Chunder06

Doesn't the prop have to spin the opposite direction to accomodate the corriolis effect? :D :D

That way in North America you can :D :D always easily determine what you are driving based upon where you happen to be sitting!
edit: after some further thought, it also eliminates the confusion of who has the right of way where a roadway intersects with a river. Naturally, the person on the left has the right of way; right?
