make 89 Sunbird model corsica 175 ok got the make model year listed now for the problem ..installed new starter then took gas cover off to check out the fuel hoses. see the top of the sending unit and the fuel outlet covered with crystals similar to rock salt or sugar . boat is only run in fresh water entire life. kept covered when not used on trailer. well took wrench to the fuel line out let it broke off at base where the gas line snugs up to elbow of gas tank connect and gas tank is solid white plastic.. any ideas what the crystal dust is ?? and cause never seen this before all the 10 yrs have owned the boat thanks! also put in fresh rebuilt starter from local shop my original starter and havent put any power to it , as seen the above fuel tank problem, but i tried turning the engine over with a socket and breaker bar on the crank shaft and engine wouldnt turn over.. so going to pull starter off and try manuel turning engine, maybe the starter shop put on too long of part that goes into flywheel ?? he did mention something about putting on a longer something??? maybe the little gear in bendix i dunno ?? thanks guys be back in a while to take starter off.. this messes up this weekend 1st chance to take boat to lake

Re: seeing crystal

Not sure about the crystals, but you need to figure out why the motor is seized. Oil is OK? Remove spark plugs. I would suspect hydrolock from manifold failure.

Re: seeing crystal

ty pulled all 6 six plugs looking straight at front of motor #2 on left had maybe a cupped hand of water come out and right front 1st cylinder a little water come out rest no water came out . engine block stiff full of regular auto antifreeze havent drained it yet. the little bit of water that did come out was clear not green. 1st time ever had this happen.,. suggestions?? before this was just needing the starter put in wired and and battery hooked up. i had the starter installed ready just before i went to get battery some some wild hair figured id make sure enging would turn over so i put a socket and breaker bar on crank and nut tightend but didnt turn moecktor thats when i stopped and started checking things .. ok Chris oil is full and clean still like new as had it done just before parked for winter. and ran it at lake total of 6 hrs then stored for winter with gal car antifreeze in block etc as done all the past 8 yrs. by the way i cleaned up the gas tank sending unit, but the gas out let is broke off at hose connection barb part so i screwed it out and get a new one next week. so far im back to your suspect manifold failure ^ and not doing anything yet till i get futhure instrcutions from ya so fo now starter is completely out of boat oil clear clean and at full mark thanks i'll check back Randy

Re: seeing crystal

Randy, Drain the manifolds. If you cannot turn the motor over with the spark plugs out, you got trouble. I would recommend you blow compressed air into the plug holes to get the water out and then add generous amounts of oil.

After that, I guess you can wait a bit and see if she will break loose. I don't think you can do any more damage if you get the water out and the oil in. If not loose in a day, time to pull the heads and see what is what.
