This has probably been beat to death but since I'm new on the forum, I'll ask. Comparable in price are the rebuilt SEI and Mercury outdrives, Alpha One specifically. Has anyone been running an SEI for a while? Comments on performance?
Thanks!

Never heard a bad word about a SEI unit BUT for MY money, there are so many good used alpha's on C/L for $500 or less it's hard to justify a new one for the old boats they are generally going on... just a thought

I agree. If your boat is older a used drive can be had for less than half the price.
I've never used one but my next door neighbor has run an SEI for a long time. Never heard him complain about it and he would if something wasn't right.

MerCruiser Dealers used to like to charge $2K+ for an alpha rebuild. It was a dark day for them when SEI started selling brand new drives for $1K.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,... I've got a couple in the fleet,....

1 with 2 seasons moored on the St Lawrence, No issues what so ever,...

Put another 1 on another hull last Spring,... it puked in a little over a month,...
Pulled it, 'n shipped it back in it's boxes, 'n 'bout 10 days later, another 1 was at the back door,...
I Love 'em,....
For all practical purposes, it Is an Alpha,...

The price of Alpha 1s dropped through the floor the day SEI's came out,....
If a drive needs anymore than seals, the labor ain't worth the cost of gettin' it fixed,...

Had one put on a 454 and survived a summer quite well. They have a breakin time follow that and all should be well. Cheaper than a alpha and 3 yrs of warranty...And yes merc dealer's or rebuilder's will not like them...i just wish they would release a Bravo..
