I am repowering my 1989 Sea Nymph SS-175 Fish N Ski 1600 LB MAX ? 7PERSON - 90HP MAX beam6?10? 800LBS dry weight 17? (Starcraft SS and Sea Nymph ss are basically sister boats)
It is rated for 90HP but I think that is based on the weight of an older 2 stroke. I have a 1989 evinrude 48SPL now and want more getup an go. I typically carry 12 or more gal of gas 3 batteries fishing gear and a cooler.

I am looking at a Yamaha F70 60.8 cu in 257 lbs or the F90 97 cu in 336 lbs

I like the torque and power of the F90 but is the extra 79 lbs going to be worth it and can my boat handle this much weight ?

all advice welcom

Your boat has a hp rating, and a total weigh rating that includes the motor, gear, and people.

The ratings were not based on 2 stroke engines.

My 1985 90 hp 2 stroke Merc weighs 315#.

hp, and total weight.

Four stroke outboards have been around a long long time.
They weren't extremely popular in the 70's or 80's, but they were there.
Honda has been making them since 1964.
Homelite Bearcat 55 was introduced in 1960 or 61 and weighed 239#, and they made an 85 hp that weighed around 300+.
Yamaha was making 4 strokes in 1984.

Would you hesitate to have 2 grown men sit on the back of your boat?

If your transom is sound, it should be fine with the 90.
