I bought a new boat (see sig) I need to get rid of my other boat obviously. Its a 1982 imperial V183 with a rebuilt Mercruiser 120. I'm seeing other similar year imperials go for 1500 dollars in my area. So I'm wondering if it might be worth it to part it out after seeing some of the prices on used parts on ebay. Just wondering your thoughts.

Main things I could sell:

Lower Unit ($200-$300)
Upper Unit ($100-$200)
Misc drive shafts etc (couple bucks)
rebuilt carb ($50-$75)
Cylinder head ($100-$200)
Fuel Pump ($50-$60)
Manifolds ($200-$300 total for both)
Trailer ($200-$300)
New Throttle assembly ($50-$75)
Bell Housing and parts ($50-$75)
Boat Shell With redone interior ($300-$500)
Valve cover, Camshaft, Crankshaft, gauges, and all other misc parts ($200-$300)

After a quick total, i stand to make $1525-$2310 parting out. What would you do?

It depend how much is your time worth. Time to disassemble all the parts, take pics, then to list them on ebay, reply to questions, ship the items and sometime being stuck with unsold items. For, maybe, 500$ more if you happen to sell everything, wich isn't sure, it's a no-brainer for me: sell it as-is!

I parted out a Jeep this past summer. A lot of working ripping it up, haggling, selling, waiting on people, shipping, posting ads. I still have about 30% of the Jeep in my garage can't give the stuff away.

I would sell it as-is. Take the $$$ and use your time to buy something for the new boat !

if you choose to part it advertise the engine for $1500. IF it sells then yank the drive and anything else you want to sell and advertise the boat for free. Next sell the trailer, drive, and other stuff.

Ditto, if the choice was $1500 in parts or $1K cash, I'd get rid of it for cash in a flash.

You are also assuming that all those parts are going to come off in one piece. What happens when you bust the head bolts off, or pry on something and break it?......no money
