I recently sold a small fishing boat. I did not give the new owner the registration tag that you keep in the boat. Do I need to? This is for the state of Minnesota. Thanks in advance!

It is always best to pass along any paper work you have in your hands to the new person that purchases the item, makes it far easier for everybody involved. I really don't understand why you wouldn't give the documentation you have for the item you sold?

No, you don't have to give them that part of the sticker. When they reg it in their name they will get a new one.

Well at least you got the answer you were looking for.

You live in MN and have any idea what he is talking about? In MN there is a stub attached to the reg stickers that shows who the boat is registered to - it is only valid for the registered owner. When you buy a boat you bring your title in and pay the title transfer fee and a $4.50 Transfer without renewal fee that gets you a stub that has your name on it and is your legal registration. Until you transfer it, it has a valid year sticker on it but is not legally registered.
