I've been trying to sell my 1999 Triton TR-17 with a 120hp Force for about the last year with no luck. I'm down to asking $8900 and I owe $9300! Am I overpricing this? I checked NADA.com and a low retail price for this model is $9,500. Is a Force motor that bad? I've had great luck, its been a great motor. I just don't have time to use the boat.

Welcome to iboats.

The Force is not with you. ;) They had an iffy reputation when they were still being built (not all deserved). Now that they're not, they're an even tougher sell. :( Where are you at? Around here people are just getting interested. Now might be a good time to step-up your efforts. But for the most part, that price range ... people are looking for more modern technology.

I am located in San Antonio, TX. Not exactly bass boat heaven. Most people are looking for bay or ski boats.

They also have a case of Tim Taylor-itis, they want MORE POWER, or think they "need" it.

You might try online, then ebay, then try a very short consignment contract at a dealer, maybe in Houston?

I feel for you. I just checked a few that are for sale online. Price seems about right, but most that I found have bigger motors, not Force motors, and are probably in stronger markets.

I feel for you.

Try to pick up a copy of Boat Trader for your area to get more input on pricing. They are available at most convenience stores. You need to forget the pain of having to sell it for less than you owe. It is worth only what someone will pay. You have a six year old rig with an engine that does not have a good reputation (deserved or not). A prospective buyer can buy new for not much more and get a warranty to boot. I don't follow pricing that much but my guess is that in Florida you might get $6K. Good luck.

Mfurse, Place an ad here on IBOATs and see what happens. I put my old boat up for sale on this site last May and it sold in less than 2 weeks! And I think the ad was only $15 with pics. for 6 months. Do some comparison shopping to see what a similiar boat/motor goes for and price it accordingly. Good luck!

I might be able to explain what you are up against, short story. Was retiring to fl. from the langhorn pa. area. Had to many cars and had to get rid of one. Nice car, clean , low milage. people were paying $6500 on the lots for the same car i was asking $3000. Was displayed at a high traffic area garage and did not get a call in 2 weeks.( price was on the for sale sign). Finally the gentelman who owned the garage explained the problem to me. I was looking for cash! People would go to the lots and pay twice as much because they could make monthly payments, they did not have the cash. Is there someway you could finance for people ? Somewhat risky but worth some consideration. My neighbor in pa. was a repo man and made a REAL good living so watch out. Like others said, be prepared to take quite a loss. by all means good luck. fred

Perception is more powerful than truth. It doesn't matter how well that Force engine runs, looks, etc. The perception is that it is a sub par engine that only leads to headaches (just read any engine forum). Your stuck with an outboard that has an extremely low resale value. Stalker
