A little over a year ago I lost a good friend to some thugs that murdered him. Still no arrests of leads on the case.

Friday night a friend that I rarely see committed suicide. 38 years old, and a crap load of lifes obstacles on his sholders. His 20 yr old daughter died last July with Cancer, his dad passed away in June, and May he was injuried playing football causing him to be out of work which caused him to lose his job.

Just talked to him 2 weeks ago. Said he found a good job in fabrication and that they were sending him to welding school. Was getting his child support caught up, and a good girlfriend to. He led me to believe everything was looking up for him.

He had talked about doing this before several times. My friends and myself made it a point to be there for him. But this last time he didn't mention anything about thinking about taking his own life.

Last week a couple broke down on the road. The husband had crawled under their camper to see what was wrong. Meanwhile his wife stepped out onto the road to flag down a truck that was going by. The driver said he kept moving over until his wheels were going off the burm of the left side of the road, but she still got in front of him until she was run over. Turns out it was Lonnie's girl friends mom. My wife did the truckers drug screen from the accident. She said he was shaken up bad.

Life is still wonderful even with the downfalls. One just has to be on his toes and pay attention to what goes on around you.

SS

Re: Senseless loss of friends

I keep busy at work to help keep my mind off things and keep in close contact with my other friends.

Still have one more friend we call Rooster. His job position was eliminated a year ago, his wife left him, and his unemployement has run out. He has been living off his credit cards during this whole period. A year and a half.

He wakes up and opens a beer or pours a drink. By 9am he is drunk. He lost his license and continued to drink and drive. Had one week to go on his suspension and then wrecked his van. Now it has a boot and club on it and he is forced to stay home. All he does is to talk about suicide, but openly admitts he doesn't have the guts to do it. All of his friends have tried to talk to him so much that we have been turning our backs on him due to his obnoxious attitude that seems to get worse by the day. He has been making advances to our wives which has made alot of us mad at him. Another reason we have got to the point of not wanting him around.

I personnally feel this is a case where a 6 month jail term would be beneficial for the mans health and well being. He is now 40 and has aquired 6 DUI's since he started driving at the age of 17. I am more affraid he is going to kill someone and or himself.

My friendship with him is at the point that I feel I can do without. I just know if he got his drinking under control, the ole Rooster would be back. Just don't know how to respond to him anymore. He is too good of a man to go to waste as he has.

Just keep hanging in there the best I can.....SS
