Hi guys,

I recently bought a 2002 Bayliner Classic 1950 with a 3.0L Mercruiser motor. The previous owner told me it had the motor replaced with a new one in 2008 but it was before he owned it so he didn't have any paperwork. My issue is I can't find a serial number tag anywhere on the motor. There is nothing near the flywheel, near the starter, or on the air filter. The only numbers on the block are in the picture I attached. Is this the serial number or is there somewhere else I can look? Thanks in advance!

That's a block casting number.

And it looks like it's a block from the early to mid 90s. Very little difference between this block and the original 2002 block. If all the original accessories were transferred directly across, you'd never know.

The original serial number is going to be in the range between 0M087452 and 0M365048. (assuming the original engine was a 2002 year model)

Chris.

I dont know where the SN will be on a 3.0 but usually there is a mercruiser tag riveted to the flywheel cover area of the block, a tag on the flam arrestor cover, and if the original owenrs manual etc is in there there is usually a mercruiser book that came with the power package that I think has the sn for the engine, the transom, and the outdrive. Unfotunatley things like these can get tossed. If it wasnt replaced with a mercuiser engine, like a rebuilt long block or new base engine from a non merc supplier then you wont have a serial number per se, you have to look through parts diagrams to match up what you need.
