Ok guys, I need some help. This past weekend I replaced my belt tensioner and serpentine belt. It was a little out of alignment before install, so I ended up have to adjust the pulley on the steering pump to get it all lined up. The steering pump is actually brand new (2 weeks old) and when i started it up, I heard a very inconsistent pinging noise coming from the power steering. I have no clue what could be causing it, or why it would do that now. anyone else experience this or have any advice on what may be causing it or how to fix it? it sounds like a bearing, or some metal piece that just hits against something every few seconds. its not consistent at all so I know the pinging is not coming from the engine. I am 99% sure its from the power steering pump. Thanks all for the help. Engine is a 5.7L VP set up.

If you suspect the NEW pump is making the noise, return it for another one. I'm guessing it is warrantied... JMHO!

I just talked to a friend of mine, and he said that when the pulley was adjusted with the new belt and tensioner, that it may be pushed in too close to the pump and that I should back it out a thread.
he said that there should a minimal amount of clearance on the pulley to the pump and if I went to far, it will make a knocking noise.
