A newbie question, ---- workshop question-,

In a mariner parts diagram they show various types of lube types for various parts

eg drawings showing a diagram of a grease tube with various numbers stating the type on the end of the tube , where can i get a description and type of gooo .

guys, just found answer to my question ha, ha, at the top of parts catt , types of grease , sealants etc with merc patr numbers att, locktite 271 now goes under263 (thread locker)

still working on the rest.

Warwick, The manufacturers want you to buy some of their products, however, it approaches a scam on their part, IMHO.

What you need for lubrication is real simple. TCW-III two cycle oil for mixing (or oil injection) with the gasoline, Marine Gear Oil for mechanical shift motors for your gearcase, and some multipurpose grease for everything else. Some fittings (not many) can use a threadlocker. Merc makes a special lube 101 which is a bit superior to regular grease for steering cable ends. The rest is snake oil. I use Marine (cartridge) Grease, TCW-III and Gear Oil from Wallyworld. Some Permatex #2 and some blue locktite are handy to have around as well.
