Finally got my Johnson working with the help from people on this sight but now my Johnson won't start unless I pull the lever out to rev it up,and when I back it off if I don't get it into gear quick enough it stalls. Must be able to turn the idle up somehow? Its a 35hp and I believe its a 76. Thx for any help.

Re: Setting the Idle

Is it elec start and has a manual start? Did you remove the carb and clean it?

Yes it has been cleaned and its electric start. Need to know if theres a idle screw that I can turn and take the idle up. Should be able to touch the key and make it run

Re: Setting the Idle

HI MMHagler. yes, there is an idle set screw at the base of the vertical throttle linkage. The old, original screws were nylon and may have rotted or fallen out over the years. They can be easily repalced with a 2"-3", 1/4"-20 stainless steel screw. Here's a link on how to adjust and set up your carb's hi/lo speed needles too. It may take a little fiddling to get everything set just right, but once they're set you shouldn't have to mess with them again.
