My trim position gauge does not read properly ... when it was in for service mechanic advised Trim Position sender needs adjusting .... which he was supposed to do ... but reported, stuck screw ... will need to be drilled out.

So as he didn't do it I guess it's my job.
I assume that Trim position sender & trim limit are identical units.

I did a Google and found this:
http://www.mercstuff.com/trim_limit.htm

Is this all correct ? ........ reasonable enough to follow.
If I read correctly the Trim Position sender is on right hand side if I am standing behind the prop .(starboard)

Nope, completely different insides, one is a potentiometer, the other is a switch.

Go up to the Adults Only sticky and download the OEM service manual for your outdrive, it will explain how to adjust, and change if necessary.

And grease or anti-seize the screws so they will come out next time.

Re: Setting up Trim Sender

When you remove the stuck screw, Just drill enough of the head of the screw away to remove the sending unit. That will leave you part of the threaded shaft of the screw exposed that you may be able to get a grip on.
That screw is stainless steel. If you have to drill it out of the body of the gimble ring, you would be better of leaving it and just using the remaining screw. drilling that tiny screw out will be just about impossible without damaging the gimble ring.

OK ... I just went off parts manual they share same part number.

I'll just adjust the Starboard one.

Re: Setting up Trim Sender

The reason they have the same part number is because they come as a kit that includes the trim limit switch and the guage sender. It's not suggested to replace just one at a time due to the manner they go through the transom shield. Changing just one could cause a water leak.
