Re: shaft frozen into power head

Hi Schematic,

I just got done reading the assistance you gave one other guy. Some very ingenious methods. Now on with the saga. I have had these motors since new. I have twins. Every two years I change water pumps and the starboard motor always give me grief(not this much though). This year when I went to open her up for the year I noticed gear oil(stinky) leaking from out of the weep slot of the prop shaft bearing housing. It looks like the O-Ring seal at the front of the bearing housing is bad. Well I figured I would just remove the lower unit and have it resealed. That is where my problems began. I can pry the rear to rear quater part of the lower unit about 1/8-1/4' apart. But from mid way forward lower unit will not budge. I have tried striking the l/i with a 4# mallet while wedges are in the rear half of lower unit. I will try the idea about prying the unit down and retightening the rear bolts to see if that will pop the front half.

Thanks for Assistance

p.s. shift rod is disconnected
