I'm fixing to buy a fishing boat for the outer banks of NC, where the water can get right skinny. I'm thinking simple, open CC. Outboard.
Any recommendations on make? Thoughts on jet-drive?
I've never owned a boat before.

Thanks, Ed. CS is one of the boats I've been considering. I may want a bit more freeboard so that I can use the boat in the Chesapeake Bay where I live as well.

Jaymo,

Scout is another I would consider. They are local, in that area, and have a great reputation.

Re: shallow-water boat recommendations?

I have boated in the Chesapeake in the past and in Biscayne Bay, Florida Bay and the Florida Keys. I would recommend a 19-23' outboard powered CC. Less than 19' and you are going to get pounded in rough water and more than 23' can be a bear to trailer and launch/retrieve solo. I have a 23' Wellcraft with plenty of freeboard and you can always tilt the engines up when it gets real shallow. This also takes the rough water quite well.
