Shed Insulation...

The shed I'm building will be basically a deck on piers, what would you use to insulate underneath the floor?<br /><br />Engineer got back to me this morning, using 2x12's for the floor spanning 16', and they will be 18" from the bottom of the board to the ground on the low high side of the hill, about 4' off the ground on the low side of the hill.

A friend of mine had the bottom of his cottage sprayed with foam insulation. He is very happy with it. His cottage is up on piers as well. So far there has been no signs of rodents getting at the foam.<br /><br />Hope your project is going well....

Project hasn't even STARTED yet.<br /><br />My town rules have a 20' setback from side property line, I need to put it at 5'. My property borders my Parents property, just a big open area. My house is 50' from the side property line, If I have a 20' setback, then a 16' building, it will be right on top of my house.<br /><br />Soooo I have to apply for a Zoning "variance" Have to have any property owners within 185' of my property sign that they do not contest (1 left to sign out of 5) Then an ad goes in the paper for 15 days before a hearing. THEN I can have my building permit approved.. and THEN I can finally dig my friggin holes and get a inspection so I can pour the concrete.<br /><br />Man I miss the good ole days before I had nosey neighbors and we would just BUILD WHAT WE WANTED!<br /><br />once I get started I'll post pics of progress.

WOW....that's a lot of work for permits. But at least with all the paper work inorder, no one can bug ya.<br /><br />Look forward to the pics...

For the Floor Insulation,.......<br /><br />I'd think it will Matter, What you're Doing in the shed.......<br /><br />In other Words,....... What are the Chances of "Things" being Spilt on the floor,.. That'll leak into the Insulation,..??...<br /><br />With 11 1/2"s of Clearance between the bottom of the floor boards,+ the bottom of the joists,.....<br />Just covering the Bottom of the Joists with a layer of Heavy Poly,+ Plywood, would give you Plenty of Dead Air,.....<br />Which is what Insulation Is,.. Anyway.......

Bondo, won't be doing anything in there that would leak, basically storage and wood working type stuff.<br /><br />I wonder if you staple thick poly to the underside, then maybe put some furring strips up just to hold in place and then use blown insulaton and put a few inches on top of the poly and then put the subfloor down..

You want moisture resistant. You can use the bubble foil or the foil coated foam board. As long as the building is skirted all the way around with vents you should be okay. I have seen peopl put a layer of 1" foam board ontop of plywood and then sandwich it with a sheet of OSB. Makes for a thick quit floor that is insulated.<br /><br />Mousture/condensation will be the enemy. Keep it dry and vented. Another thought is to lay heavy poly sheets on the ground under the building to prevent moisture from rising.
