I'm needing help identifying a small red wire coming out of the control box. This is a hydroelectric motor. It has a pos and neg wires that have terminal ends , then the wiring harnass adapter, and then this very short and tiny red wire. I have everything else figured out but this one very small wire and I'm afraid to hook it up to positive just because its red and not knowing where it goes. Thank you

The 73 motor is NOT hydro-electric shift , repeat is NOT hydro-electric shift.-----1972 was the last production year for hydro-electric shift.-------Post a picture of the red wire.----Post your model # as well.

I apologize Raceone. My bad! I meant to type 72. It is the last year of the hydroelectric for the 65 HP. I will have to post a pic of this wire in a Lil while I do not have it in front of me. Model # is 65ESL-72S. Thanks!

Perhaps someone was using the motor wiring harness to power up a fish finder or radio.------Not a good idea to use the motor wiring for that.---Remove the plastic cover on the control box and see where the wires come from.

Well i went and took a pic of wiring with my phone and it won't upload for some reason. It is saying invalid data .Anyway now that I got it lined up there are a positive and negative that I can tell go to battery then two more that go to the motor,I assume for starter. Then the wire harness with adapter that go to motor that controls shifting I believe.
Then of course the linkage that appears to go to the throttle on the motor. Besides that there is a very small wire straight outta the control box that is red and bout a foot long. Can't be for much of nothing because its very very small. I guess tomorrow I'll see where it comes from. Thanks again!!

Raceone the Lil red wire is running from the toggle switch in the remote box. Somebody rigged it tho . I'm guessing just hook it up as a positive straight to battery?? Thanks
