shift assist module problem

i hav.e a 91 4.3 omc with a prestolite electronic ignition . boat would not start or start sporadicaly. finally found out esa is bad disconected it and it starts every time now . it had a bad short in it cooked my control module and my coil . anyway can i operate the boat with it unhooked . it is a shift assist but will it hurt the gears i need to use the boat this weekend and i have no time to replace now . thanks in advance

it could hurt your gears or shift cable if you force it.. my module went bad on my boat i follwed the wires going from my shift interrupter switch to box and bypassed them works fine now and saved $ $ ...another thing you can do when you go to shift turn your ignition key off for a split second it should shift fine and get you threw weekend .......[ if you look at my profile page at one of my old post had post about how i by passed my box and what cooler wire's there was ]i think it was a white with black strip coming from interrupter switch and a gray going to coil i cut those 2 wires near the box and spliced them together and shifts fine now
